Emali, on the Nairobi–Mombasa road
A butchery and hotel that never closes, because the road doesn't either. Ask any driver who's done this route twice — they'll tell you exactly where to pull over.
The grill doesn't go out. The lights don't go off. Bullhead doesn't close — not at midnight, not at 4am, not ever.
Long-haul drivers heading for Mombasa learned the name first — a light still on at 2am, a plate of meat that made the last stretch of road worth it. What was one counter became two, a hundred metres apart, both keeping the same hours as the highway itself: all of them.
Bullhead was never built for people who already knew Emali. It was built for the ones just passing through, who weren't planning to stop — until they did.
Walk in for one thing, you'll end up circling all four.
Pick your cut at the butchery, watch it hit the grill next door. Boiled meat, fry, matumbo, maini, stew — whatever you point at is yours in minutes.
Chips, smokies, a hot cup of chai — fresh and safe, ready before your number's even called.
No menu board here — just the fryer going and whatever came in fresh that morning. Ask what's cooking; that's what you're having.
Sit-down tables if you'd rather not eat standing at the counter. Same kitchen, same fire, just with a chair under you.
